Hygge, for those of you who are not familiar with the term, is a Danish word which according to the Cambridge dictionary, describes “A quality of coziness (feeling warm, comfortable and safe) that comes from doing simple things such as lighting candles, baking, or spending time at home with your family”.

Fall is the best season to step up your Hygge-game with decor accessories for your home and outdoors, which is why we compiled a list of the top 25 Hygge decor items that will help you get winter-ready.
1. A fur chair cushion
Because it’s still a valid trend and it upgrades your seating experience to a whole new level.
Also, there’s always the option to DIY it by buying a raw fabric.
This is the essential Hygge home decor product.
Candles are the ultimate upgrader and literally an ice-breaker. Dutch people consume more candles than any other country in the world, and they are also the happiest people according to so many reports (#justsaying).
Bottom line, they all do a great job, so you might as well save this money to get some pet-candies for your dog.
The following candle has a friendly price, a good scent (Bergamot & Mahogany), and a beautiful package, try it and you won’t regret it.
3. Herbal plants
Plants are also a good idea, especially for Hygge home decor lovers. They clean the air, add texture, and are irreplaceable.
When you don’t know what to put in that empty corner- go get a nice big plant.
The smart move would be to look for indoor plants that can be transformed into a great cup of tea (but try not to tell them that).
While this subject can justify an entire article, here’s an idea for now: go get this French lavender seeds- its leaves are great inside a teacup, it’s indoor friendly, and it’s also very aesthetically pleasing.
4. A rug in the bathroom
You might think: “a rug in the bathroom? It’s very messy and very not sustainable”. But the truth is, that it really depends on which rug we’re talking about.
Most of the vintage rugs can tolerant humidity like most of us can’t.
The end result is a Hyggelic bathroom and a score of 10/10 in Hygge decor.
5. Living-room knit blanket
The answer is yes. It’s mushier than it looks, and it’s highly ranked in the scale of Hygge.
The other question we should ask is how much of a hassle it is to wash it, and the answer is that it’s a negligible hassle.
While it’s necessary to wash it with cold water, you only have to do it twice a year.
6. Cotton sheets
If there’s one thing no one should compromise on, it is their bed and its accessories.
When I started paying more attention to the fabric of my bed sheets I realized that there’s a range of textures that create a huge difference in the quality of the sheets and subsequently the quality of your sleep.
Cotton jersey sheets are wallet-friendly and made out of cotton. It’s is basically a t-shirt fabric.
As mentioned above, there is a wide range of qualities and jersey is not the highest one, but it’s right in the middle so it’s accessible for everyone.
7. Floor lamps
It could be either a floor or table lamp. The only thing that matters here is your Hyggelic final goal, which is to be able to light your space without using the main lights that are attached to the ceiling.
The reason is, that the more you have different and dimmed light sources in a given space, the cozier and Hyggish it will be.
For example, placing two floor-lamps and one table lamp in the living room will set aside the need of using the main light (also read section one about candles).
8. A pouf
This pouf from Target is all you need this fall. It’s cute and tiny, will fit into any space, and looks cozy with a great texture. I love it.
And I searched the entire web looking for a worthy pouf so “I’ve seen some poufs in my life”, I’ll tell you that.
9. This amazing mug
Truth be told, I am absolutely obsessed with anything made by Fishs Eddy, so it’s a little of a biased recommendation, but you have to check out their online mug section!
You won’t regret it. Heres one of my favorites:
10. String lights
Remember section 7 that talks about indoor lighting? So this is its parallel sibling for outdoor areas.
String lights are so underrated when it comes to exterior Hygge elements. it’s literally a game changer that doesn’t cost as much. There are also smaller string lights that work great indoors. And here’s where you can buy them.
11. A shaggy bathmat
If you weren’t convinced that a vintage rug can handle the dumbness situation in the bathroom, then you might want to consider a nice comfortable shaggy bath mat.
It’s a completely different concept of course, more conventional and less heroic, but it’s really comfy, fluffy and makes your bathroom floor look like a painted cloud.
12. Taymor teak bath caddy
If you are a bath person, this is for you. If you’re not, you should definitely embrace fall’s bathtub scene.
It’s pretty addictive and is basically the winter version of meditation.
So, in order for you to upgrade your bathtub game, get a teak bath caddy that will allow you to bring in food and books to turn you into an official bath-potato (and don’t forget to drink tons of water!).
13. Knit socks
Because they make your feet so warm. Most of us can’t sleep with cold feet, which is the most extended limb, and therefore is more sensitive to cold temperature. Long story short- it’s necessary (and very chic).
14. Wood platter
Wood is a warm material, which is why we all love wood flooring and wood logs on the ceiling.
This fall, it’s all about wood.
So yes, of course, you can install wood flooring (it’s always recommended) but if you’re looking for a cheaper solution with a similar vibe- you’re looking for a wood platter.

15. Bath salts
Because OMG how amazing your skin can feel and smell!
It’s probably the closest you’ll ever get to be sexually attracted to yourself.
Here’s my choice, it’s from a company called “Goop”, and they have some other amazing products as well.
16. Ottoman Coffee Table
One of wintertime rule of thumb is this: wood is better than tiles and upholstered is better than well… not-upholstered.
That’s why the human race invented the ottoman coffee table. Here’s my research’s winning choice from Joss&Main.
17. Furry and velvet throw pillows
While they might be a bit more expensive from than the ordinary cotton pillow, furry and velvet pillows will add a great punch to any given living-room or seating area.
Choose their colors wisely and you won’t be disappointed.
18. A good book
While reading a book is always a good idea, and for some, it functions as a great alternative to meditation, books are also one of my (and many others) favorite decorative instruments that adds color and an intellectual vibe to any room in the house.
It’s true that you shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, but for decorating purposes, you definitely should (and just get the kindle version of the ugly books you really like(: ).
So here are some really good books that also have great covers:
19. A cozy coffee mug knit
Isn’t this the cutest thing ever? This coffee knit comes in handy by preserving the coffee’s hot temperature especially when you buy a takeaway and go out in the cold weather.
20. Boiled wool eco shoes
These shoes are made out of Tyrol wool, and oil soap.
They are extremely comfy and very cozy, and especially fit people who love the rustic and Nordic styles.
The main reason Alexa made it on this list is due to the fact that it can help you avoid getting off the couch. Alexa is a virtual assistant developed by Amazon.
Among many other capabilities, it can also be used itself as a home automation system.
It’s another great way to cozy-up your space, and not by using photos.
Wall art is an extremely important home decor item when it comes to creating a Hygge environment.
While framed photos are always a good idea, mixing them with additional items can be very nice and refreshing.
23. Electric fireplace
Why giving up the fireplace dream when you can get an electric fireplace?
Truth be told, a classic fireplace is very Hygglic and sexy.
However, it is a very expensive purchase, that enslaves you to look for woods on a weekly basis (seriously, where can you get pieces of wood in the city these days?).
So, say hello to the electric fireplace! It has the main benefits of a regular fireplace without the cons.
24. Towel warmer
A warm towel is 300% better than a room temperature towel. And this has a greater effect during the fall and winter time.
That’s why a towel warmer is what you need in order to finish the shower process the best way you can.
25. Heater mattress pad
If you fancy the idea of the towel warmer, you’ll probably like the heater mattress as well.
By turning it on 15 minutes before going to bed, you’ll get a cozy, warm bed, that will make you fall asleep the minute you lay down.
